Importance of Occupational Therapy Guidance to Caregivers of Children With Disabilities

The family is a system and a change in one of its members can directly affect all others. The arrival of a child with any disability inserts in your care from early contact with various professionals from different areas. Occupational therapy has as one of its proposals to guide the family about the posicioname, stimuli and adjustments to facilitate the daily lives and promote improvement in motor development in different contexts making active agent caregiver therapeutic process. This work aims to show the importance of guidance to caregivers of children with disabilities. This is an account of a resident’s experience in the care of guidance to caregivers of children with disabilities who are awaiting a therapy rehabilitation center of Recife, between September and October 2015, held every Tuesday, with return every 3 months. During the sessions that most caregivers complain about positioning about home and placement in the AVD. The occupational therapist performs the guidelines considering the steps of development, according to the potential of the child. From the second guideline identifies advances in child and if provides new guidelines. During the period reported, identified that the majority of children, from the second orientation, got good evolution and their caregivers were motivated to get more knowledge. Many families have limited knowledge about the potential of children causing reduction of investments in the treatment. Given that the guidelines seek to make the parents more involved and encourage their children safe. It is important to keep the parents adhered to treatment because the need of transfer for life the skills learned daily. So, if you know in the rehabilitation center, the children of parents who engage in the guidelines, return with a better development than those that the parents are uninterested. Therefore understand the importance of offering guidance to caregivers, so that they can learn to stimulate and position its children, because the treatment will not be effective if the guidelines are not transferred to everyday activities.
