Welcome Dr Ronald J. Burke to Join the Editorial Board of Global Journal of Nursing.

One of Canada’s most prolific researchers, Professor Burke’s work has focused on the relationship between the work environment and the individual’s overall well being, and over the past forty-five years he has written articles for numerous academic and professional journals. In addition to his research and teaching activities, Professor Burke was the Founding Editor of the Canadian Journal of Administrative Sciences. Burke has served on the editorial board of fifteen journals and has reviewed manuscripts for about 30 journals. He has served as a member of two grants committees for the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, as Director of the PhD program in the Schulich School of Business at York University, and as Associate Dean Research, with the Schulich School of Business at York University. And as as area coordinator of the Organizational Studies department on two occasions. He has participated in research conferences in North and South America, the UK, Europe, Asia and Australia. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Psychological Association. He is the youngest professor to achieve tenure, and the rank of Full Professor at Schulich. Burke is currently Emeritus Professor of Organizational Studies and Senior Scholar at York University.

Professor Burke previously held the Imperial Life Professorship in Organizational Behavior and was a Senior Research Fellow at the National Centre for Management Research and Development, Ivey School of Business Administration, The University of Western Ontario. As holder of this Professorship, he started the Women in Management Research Program at Ivey.
While at Ivey he developed a Canada-wide research program soliciting and funding women in management projects in Canada. He has received several research grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research /council of ’Canada, the Schulich School of Business,York University, the Ivey school of Business, and the Donner Foundation, among others.He is included in Canadian Who’s Who.

At Schulich, he supervised the doctoral theses of Monica Belcourt, Gene Deszca, Jacob Wolpin, Katherine Kirchmeyer and Jim Lyttle., and been on the doctoral committees of Ken McBey, Julia Richardson and Jeff Gandz.. Burke has published with Schulich colleagues and former PhD students (e.g., Rekha Karambayya, Jacob Wolpin,Monica Belcourt,PATRICIA Bradshaw, Gene Deszca, Kathleen Kirchmeyer, Julia Christensen Hughes, Elizabeth Kurucz).

Professor Burke earned a BA from the University of Manitoba and an MA and a PhD, from the University of Michigan. After completing his PhD in 1966 Professor Burke taught for two years at the University of Minnesota, following which he joined the School of Business at York University in Toronto.

He has participated in over 300 management development programs as well as serving as a consultant on organizational effectiveness issues for private and public sector organizations. His views on management have also appeared in various media. An outstanding teacher, Professor Burke has been frequently nominated for MBA teaching awards, ranking first in 2001.

His consulting clients have included the Bank of Montreal, the Toronto Dominion bank. Price Waterhouse, Deloitte, the Canadian Police College, Minneapolis Honeywell, Control Data Canada, North York General Hospital, York/Finch hospital, St. Josephs hospital ,the University of Minnesota hospital, the US Defense Language Institute (outside San Francisco), the Toronto Star, among others. Data from some consulting projects have yielded published articles (e. g, working with a service organization to support women’s advancement). In addition he has often been quoted in the media.

Burke has published almost 600 journal articles and book chapters and presented over 500 papers at academic conferences around the world, over the past 53 years. His first publication occurred in 1963 while still a graduate student at the University of Michigan and he has published articles, book chapters and books every year since then over the past 54 years. . His publications have appeared in the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Canadian Journal of Administrative Sciences, Journal of Business Ethics, and Corporate Governance among many others .He has organized and edited issues of journals on topics such as women in management and work addition, among others. He received an award for his manuscript reviews from Gender in Management: An International Journal, his book with Davidson (Women in Management worldwide: Facts, figures and analysis, received an award citation from the American Librarians Association, and an article with Ghada el-Kot received a Research Excellence award by Emerald Publishing for one of their research articles..He has also edited or co-edited over 55 books to date with McGraw-Hill, Kluwer, Blackwell, Routledge, the American Psychological Association, Sage, Edward Elgar, Cambridge University Press, Emerald, Gower and Elsevier. In addition, he serves as co-editor of the Gower Publishers series on the psychological and behavioral aspects of risk in organizations. Researchgate indicated that his work has received over 12,000 citations. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Marquis
Whos Who in 2017, an award given to the op 3% of individuals in a given field.. His ResearchGate score is higher than 98% of ResearchGate members. He was also nominated for a research award from the Gender in Organizations division of the Academy of Management in 2017, He was awarded the Distinguished Scholar Practitioner award by the Academy of management in 2017..He was also selected for inclusion in the AcademicKeys Who’s Who in busisness Higher Education (WWBHE) in 2017.
He has provided jacket endorsements for a dozen books in women in management, women entrepreneurs, and work and well-being. In 2014 he was asked to consider editing two American Psychological Association journals (Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, International Journal of Stress Management).Publishers have solicited his review of book proposals on a number of occasions…He has also been invited to present his work at a number of international gatherings over the years in a wide range of fields

He has carried out research in Canada, Turkey, China, Russia, Egypt, Bulgaria,the Netherlands, Australia, and the Philippines. and he has established research collaborations with academics in these countries. He has published with colleagues in Canada, Turkey, China, Egypt, Bulgaria, New Zealand, the Netherlands,Australia, he Philippines,Greece, the UK, the US, and Isreal.
