Biography & Research Interest

Welcome Prof. Jurek Olszewski, MD, PhD to Join the Editorial Board of International Research Journal of Otolaryngology.

“Born on 30th June, 1955 in Kikol, Poland. On passing the entrance examinations in 1974, began studies at the Faculty of Medicine the Military Medical Academy, graduated with distinction obtaining the Doctor of Medicine degree in 1980. At that time (1984) obtained a scientific degree of doctor for his research work entitled “External and Internal Structure of the Human Vulvar Nerve”. On 1st September, 1990, was promoted to be a lecturer at the Otolaryngological Department. The scientific degree of the assistant professor in medical sciences, which was conferred by the resolution of the Council of the Faculty of Medicine the Military Medical Academy of 25th June, 1996, on the basis of the general evaluation of his scientific output and presented postdoctoral degree work under the title “Experimental research on the ischemia influence from the vertebral arteries on the internal ear functions of guinea pigs”.
Furthermore in 1997 obtained the I grade specialization within army health protection management, next a title of a specialist in this field in 1998, a title of a specialist in sports medicine in 2000, audiology in 2002, medical rehabilitation in 2002, audiology and phoniatrics in 2005.
An adviser of 21 doctoral dissertations and 13 master’s degree theses, also a promoter of 30 doctorates, 100 master’s degree theses and 12 diploma theses.
Participated in 185 Congresses – Conventions – Symposia – Conferences, including 142 on the national and 43 on the international level, presented 522 research reports. Furthermore, his scientific work covers 394 publications, out of which 305 printed in national and 89 – in international periodicals.
On 20th August, 2001, the President of the Republic of Poland conferred him the title of the full professor of medical sciences.”

Clinical research studies:
– Clinical and cytological studies into the tolerance and influence of the Olbas oil on the nasal mucosa in healthy volunteers and patients with acute rhinitis.1997.
– Therapeutic efficacy assessment of cefuroxime axetil in a 4-day, shortened, empirical antibiotic therapy in patients with bacterial infections in the upper airways and middle ear. 2001.
– Research project by the decision of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education: Possibilities of molecular biology with the use of DNA repair processes and polymorphisms of the genes: OGG1, MUTYH, RAD51, XPD, XRCC1 and XRCC3 in diagnosis and treatment of the head and neck neoplasm. 2007.

2008 – National Defence League Merits Gold Medal
– 1st Degree Prize by the Rector of the Medical University of Łódź
– 1st Degree Didactic Joint Prize by the Rector of the Medical University of Łódź (for the students’ book “First Medical Aid – For Physiotherapy Students”)
2007 – Pro Memoria Medal for distinguished service in preservation of memory about the people and their deeds in the fight for independence of Poland during World War 2 and after the conclusion of the War
– 1st Degree Didactic Individual Prize by the Rector of the Medical University of Łódź
