Recurrent gliomas- a short review of literature.
Gliomas one of the commonest tumour account for 40-60% of all primary neoplasm of the central nervous system. Very little is known about pathological changes associated with recurrence of gliomas. Histlogical changes regarding this transformation also is not well documented. Effect of radiotherapy and chemotherapy which results in decrease in cellularity, fibrosis, thickening of vessels are also not well documented. Paired study combining both primary and recurrent gliomas are sparse. Several genetic alterations has been mentioned in the causation and pathophysiology of recurrent gliomas. Starting from overexpression to mutation of p53 to Epidermal Growth Factor(EGFR), platelet derived growth factor-α(PDGF-A),PTEN , MDM2 all have mentioned several studies. This review article describes every aspects of recurrent gliomas in short span.
Improving Industry- University R and D Partnership Project Management: A Pilot Study
In April 2004, a new law turned Japanese national universities into independent public corporations. This change has increased pressure on them to look to industry for more support than ever before. Since one of the laboratories in Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology’s (JAIST’s) School of Materials Science is involved in a collaborative project with two industrial partners (one large and one small), we saw an excellent opportunity to conduct a pilot study on an industry-university knowledge partnership for a scientific research and development project in the Japanese national university setting. The purpose of our study is to identify both which areas and considerations have the most influence on such projects and how such projects can be improved. This paper presents our methodology and data results. Most importantly, it presents a list of specific suggestions for improving project performance. Although it was a pilot study with a small number of respondents, this study still may have significance in terms of the suggestions for improving collaborative projects and in regard to the data-gathering methodology we used. We planned to provide results of the study to the project team members and recommend they apply the most important suggestions for improving their project. We also planned to do a follow-up study to determine whether or not the project is improved by the implementation of these key suggestions.
Tourism Industry in India: Prospective, Issues and Challenges
Tourism becomes the perfect vehicle for inclusive growth of society and positively contributes to the development and poverty alleviation. Travel industry has the potential to change lives and way of approach to people. Present study analyses the issues, challenges and perspectives of tourism industry in India. Analytical-cum- descriptive research design is used in present study, in which secondary sources are used to gather information. Study concluded that although tourism industry in India has registered of positive growth since last decade, but there are many lacunae. Tourism industry in India is growing and it has vast potential for generating employment and earning large amount of foreign exchange besides giving a fillip to the country’s overall economic and social development. Eco-tourism needs to be promoted so that tourism in India helps in preserving and sustaining the diversity of the India’s natural and cultural environments. Tourism in India should be developed in such a way that it accommodates and entertains visitors in a way that is minimally intrusive or destructive to the environment. If we look at the way other countries present their tourism statistics and the details included, we have a long way to go, though there has been a reasonable improvement with regard to international tourism data collection.
Fruit Based Farming System and Threatened Landscape in the Wetlands of Abaya Chamo Basin, Southern Ethiopia
Ethiopia has diverse climate and altitude conditions, which are suitable for growing both tropical and temperate fruits. To this regard, wetlands in Abaya Chamo Basin have a promising potential for fruits and horticulture farming. But due to human induced constraints, the study wetlands are under immense pressure of degradation. The objective of the research was to examine the economic and environmental effect of fruit –based farming system in the wetlands of Abaya Chamo Basin. In the study mixed research approaches, specifically concurrent triangulation strategy was utilized. Data was collected both from primary and secondary sources. Using purposeful sampling technique three kebeles were selected as sample kebeles. From these kebeles, 180 sample household heads were proportionally selected as sample size using systematic random sampling technique. Finally collected data was analyzed using statistical package for Social Sciences, SPSS and Geographic Information Techniques, GIS. Furthermore, qualitative data was also elaborated using narration. The study findings revealed progressive transformation of land use types from traditional cropping system (sorghum, cotton and sweet potatoes) into more market oriented fruits and horticulture system. The survey data showed that mixed agriculture, (49.4%), cereals (18.9%) and fruit and horticulture (14.4%) are the three top reported household income sources in the area. The analysis of two period (1985 to 2016) satellite data showed that wetlands are dwindled by 663 hectare (20.7 ha per year) at the expense of cropland, which was increased by 506 hectares (15.8 ha per year). In Lake Abaya Chamo Basin, among others farmland encroachment into buffer areas (43.9%), deforestation of wetland (7.8 %), over-grazing (7.8%) and awareness related constraints (6%), development of saline soil (5.6%) and weed infestation (water hyacinth) are the top mentioned environmental challenges. Thus, to revert wetland degradation upland management, Lake buffer protection and increased institutional commitments are areas of intervention, which requires due…

Hospital Do Ursinho Ação Educativa Por Uma Equipe Multiprofissional Em Uma Escola Municipal Do Recife
A case report on the effect of plasmapheresis in the treatment of severe calcium channel blocker toxicity
Overdose by calcium channel blocker (CCB) antihypertensive agents has been shown to be a cause of significant morbidity and can often be fatal. (1) Although overdoses of calcium-channel blockers and beta blockers are uncommon, they have a high mortality rate, and management may be complicated. (2) Amlodipine, a dihydropyridine CCB, can cause prolonged hypotension in overdose. (3) We report a case of severe Amlodipine/Atenolol overdose that was refractory to multiple therapeutic approaches but rapidly responded to plasmapheresis. We describe the case of a previously healthy 25-year-old lady presented after ingesting 30 tablets of Amlodipine 5 mg/Atenolol 50 mg in a suicide attempt. The patient was initially managed with fluid resuscitation, calcium boluses, glucagon bolus, methylene blue boluses and multiple vasoactive agents. Hyperinsulinemic euglycemic therapy was initiated when hypotension persisted despite conventional treatments but was stopped later due to life threatening hypoglycemia and hypokalemia. Refractory hypotension prompted the use of plasmapheresis in an attempt to lower serum amlodipine levels as knowing that amlodipine is highly protein bound. Plasmapheresis is a procedure used to remove pathologic substances from a patient’s blood that has proven useful in some cases of drug overdose. (1) A dramatic improvement of cardiovascular stability was already observed during plasmapheresis. The primary outcomes were to reduce mortality and improve hemodynamic parameters. The secondary outcomes included reduce length of stay in intensive care unit, duration of vasopressor use and functional outcomes. (4) Conclusion: This case demonstrates that a Plasmapheresis can be effective in restoring hemodynamic stability in severe calcium channel blocker toxicity and recommend its use in patients with calcium channel blocker toxicity that is not responsive to traditional therapies.
Kakuchi-Fujimoto Disease Associated with Autoimmune Hepatitis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is often associated with various systemic manifestations, from peripheral cytopenias to renal involvement or neuropsychiatric symptoms. Here, we present a patient in whom the cause of fever and altered mental status was unknown despite repeated lumbar punctures, but later became elucidated following the development of rash and lymphadenopathy with subsequent biopsies. This case demonstrates a unique presentation of Kakuchi-Fujimoto Disease, a necrotizing lymphadenitis manifesting in association with SLE and autoimmune hepatitis. Further, this case illustrates the proclivity of autoimmune disorders to occur concurrently.
