Learning how to approach and solve problems which relate to real world situations is an integral part of the education of many higher and further education students and is particularly relevant to students studying for a professional degree. Mathematics is widely used in every engineering fields. In this paper, several examples of applications of mathematics in, civil, chemical and electrical engineering are discussed. Applications here are the real ones found in the engineering fields, which may not be the same as discussed in many mathematics text books. Methodologies used are of general interest and may be applicable in other, unrelated, disciplines.

This study was meant to investigate knowledge of money laundering and predisposing factors towards money laundering among bank staff (i.e. bank executives and other bank staff). The study was a survey, which utilized structured questionnaire format for data collection. A total number of 1,032 bank staff were randomly selected for the study, in which 601(58.2%) were males while 431(41.8%) were females (Mean age=36.59yrs (SD=11.85). The study participants comprised 467 bank executives and other 565 category of bank staff. Data collected for the study were analyzed by both the Descriptive and Inferential statistics. The results revealed that more of the study participants were knowledgeable of the criminal characteristics of money laundering. Also, the results showed that more of the study participants were more knowledgeable of the contributory factors towards money laundering .The results revealed further that bank executives reported more of knowledge of drug trafficking as a predisposing factors towards money laundering than other bank staff (t (1032) =2.14, p

The study was conducted in Jinka agricultural research center south agriculutural research institute Southern Ethiopia with objective of identifying effect of planting space and fertilizer rate on productivity of desho grass. Planting of Desho grass has been conducted in four planting space (level1= 0.25cm between plants and 0.5cm between rows, levele2= 0.5cm b/n plants and 0.75 b/n rows, level 3= 0.75cm b/n plants and 1meter b/n rows, level 4= 1 meter b/n plants and 1.25 meter b/n rows) and five fertilizer rates (control, 0.5 DAP and 0.5ql urea, 1 ql DAP and 1.5 ql urea, 1 ql DAP and 2 ql urea, 1.5 ql DAP and 2 ql urea ). The experiment has used a plot size of 3m x 4m. Field trial was arranged in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The Human Immune-deficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Virus (AIDS) is one of the most significant Public Health problems confronting the human race. This study explored the knowledge and attitude of nursing students in a tertiary health institution towards the care of patients who are living with HIV/AIDS by employing a quantitative & descriptive design. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 165 students who have had contact hours of lectures on the subject matter as well as been exposed to care of patients in the clinical areas. Results were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics at a df of 0.05. Findings revealed that 147 (89.1%) of the respondents have good knowledge of HIV/AIDS and are aware of the universal safety precautions; 116 (70.3%) feel protected using the universal safety precautions. However, 107 (64.8%) respondents strongly agree that being exposed to HIV infection is a major source of concern, while 85 (51.5%) of the respondents strongly support the idea that patients living with HIV/AIDS should not be admitted into the same ward with patients suffering from other disease conditions. The study recommends that all patients should be regarded as potential HIV carriers until proven otherwise due to the multifarious nature of the disease. Health workers are also reminded to adhere strictly to the universal precaution and the AIDS policy guidelines in the management of HIV/AIDS patients at all times.
