Biography & Research Interest

Welcome Dr. Chandra Prakash Kala to Join the Editorial Board of Journal of Plant and Environmental Research. Dr. Kala is a Faculty Member in the Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal.

Dr. Chandra Prakash Kala is M.Sc. in Botany and Ph.D. in Forestry. He has vast experience of working on the Himalayan ecosystem. He has published over 185 articles and 10 books, which include “The Valley of Flowers: Myth and Reality”, “Medicinal Plants of Indian Trans-Himalaya”, “Biodiversity, Communities and Climate Change”, “Medicinal Plants of Uttarakhand”, and “Medicinal Plants and Sustainable Development”. His research work is highly cited by the academicians and scientists across the world, and as per Google Scholar his published work has received over 2,500 citations till September 2016.

Dr. Kala’s decade long strenuous research work on the ‘Valley of Flowers’ laid the foundation stone for tagging this Indian national park in the list of World Heritage Sites by the UNESCO. Besides the Valley of Flowers National Park, Dr. Kala has studied many other high altitude Himalayan areas, including the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, Gangotri National Park and Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary of Uttarakhand, Pin Valley National Park, Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary and Great Himalayan National Park of Himachal Pradesh, and Hemis National Park, Karakoram Wildlife Sanctuary and Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary in Jammu-Kashmir.

He served many institutions, including the Wildlife Institute of India, the G.B. Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development, and the National Medicinal Plants Board, New Delhi with various capacities. He has chaired and delivered keynote speeches in many international and national seminars and conferences. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, and recipient of prestigious ‘ICFRE Award for Excellence’ for his outstanding contribution in the field of Forest Conservation (Biodiversity and Ecology). At present, Dr. Kala is a Faculty Member in the Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal.
