Curriculum Content, Ownership Of Universities, Work Experience And Acquisition Of Employability Skills Among Business Education Graduates Of Universities In Cross River State, Nigeria
This paper x-rayed curriculum content, ownership of universities, work experience and acquisition of employability skills among business education graduates of universities in Cross River State, Nigeria. Two formulated research hypotheses guided this study. Literature was reviewed in line with the variables under study. The research design adopted was survey. The population for the study was 987 business education graduates between 2007/2008 and 2014/2015 academic sessions from the University of Calabar (UNICAL) and Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH). The sample of the study was 200 business education graduates drawn purposively using accidental and snowballing sampling techniques. A validated researcher- made four point scale questionnaire titled ‘Curriculum Content, ownership of universities, work experience and Acquisition of Employability Skills Questionnaire (CCOUWEESQ) was used for data collection. The instrument was validated by four research experts. A reliability estimate of .70 to .82 was achieved for the instrument using Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient after a pilot test. The data obtained from the field was converted into values and analyzed using independent t-test statistical technique. All hypotheses were tested at .05 level of significance. Findings revealed among others that graduates of federal university exposed to business education curriculum content are significantly different from their state university counterparts in their acquisition of employability skills. Based on this, it was recommended that government should accord equal recognition, support and provision (in terms of funding, capacity building and infrastructural spread) to both federal and state universities in a way that obvious preference for one category over the other is not perceived. Doing so may erode the dichotomized feelings of being either in a federal or state university from the minds of the students, and rather fix their focus on quality learning that results in the acquisition of employability skills.
Colo-renal fistula following percutaneous radiofrequency ablation of a renal tumor. A case report and review of treatment options
Background: Colo-renal fistula formation is a very rare complication following percutaneous radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in the management of renal cell carcinoma. In this paper we describe the management of a patient with a left colo-renal fistula occurring after renal tumor RFA. Additionally, we present a thorough literature review of reported cases of colo-renal fistulae after percutaneous RFA to further highlight their treatment challenges. Summary: Two weeks after undergoing percutaneous RFA of an incidental 3cm left renal mass, a 67-year-old male was re-admitted to the hospital with a symptomatic colo-renal fistula. Patient ultimately failed conservative management with broad spectrum antibiotics and ureteral stent placements, and subsequently underwent segmental colonic resection and renorrhaphy, with complete renal preservation. Conclusion: Although complications after RFA of renal tumors are rare, iatrogenic colo-renal fistula formation is a significant complication requiring a multi-disciplinary approach with a trial of non-operative management prior to surgical intervention.
IMPACT OF CULTURAL EVENTS ON THE CITY AND CULTURAL TOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN IT
A feature of the modern society is the city which tries to express itself by means of social and physical environment. One of the means of expression are events whose activities engage local residents, visitors, guests, tourists, and, of course, distant spectators by means of smart global technologies. Cultural activities manifest by implementing cultural projects of various areas, starting from one-time local events, and ending with large-scale international projects. Cultural tourism is a great opportunity of urban and regional tourism development. Implementation of cultural events in cities can have impact on cultural tourism development and its planning, and can be one of the very important economic as well as sociocultural impact of tourism that manifests by created infrastructure, increasing supply of services and entertainment, and lively cultural life in cities. The work is relevant because it reveals for the first time how mega cultural events in cities are or can be an effect for cultural tourism development in cities.
Clinical and Histopathological Findings in Patients with Follicular Dermatoses: All Skin Diseases Starts in the Hair Follicles as New Hypothesis
Background: Follicular dermatoses are group of skin diseases characterised by follicular lesions during the course of the disease. Objective: To gather all skin diseases where there is follicular lesions to be evaluated in order to reach the hypothesis that hair follicles are the most principal target area in the etiopathogenesis of these skin disorders. Patients and Methods: This is a descriptive, clinical and histopathological study that was carried out at the Department of Dermatology, Baghdad Teaching Hospital, Medical City, and Baghdad, Iraq during the period from November 2018 to August 2019. Sixty patients with different follicular dermatoses were enrolled and all socio- demographic data related to the disease was obtained from each patient, in addition to physical examination was performed for each patient. Biopsies were taken from 40 patients, for histopathological evaluation. Results: Sixty patient, were included in this study, 35 patients males and 25 patients females with male to female ratio 1.4:1. Their ages ranged from 1-80(30.2 ± 16.96) years. All patients had follicular lesions. The histopathological results showed: perifollicular lymphocytes, follicular invasion and degeneration, follicular plugging, fibrous tract remnant, perifollicular melanophages and absent melanin pigment in the epidermis of patients with vitiligo. Conclusion: The result of the present study showed that all skin diseases start in the hair follicles and might spread to involve the proper epidermis, and the lesions could be microscopic or visible to the naked eye. The hair follicles have many anatomical and immunological privileges that make it easy to be an early target for any cutaneous pathological process. Hence these findings are in support of new hypothesis that say: all skin diseases starts in the hair follicles and then spread to attack the adjacent proper epidermis
The Need for Pre-retirement Vocational Education Training for Workers in Tertiary Institutions in Ekiti State, Nigeria
This study examined the need for pre-retirement vocational education training for workers in tertiary institutions in Ekiti State. Descriptive research design was used for this study. The population of the study was 9,523, made up of academic and non-academic members of staff in the four public tertiary institutions in the state. Five per cent (5%) of the total population was used as the sample for the study using proportionate sampling technique. Thus, the sample for the study was 476 members of staff. A set of questionnaire titled “Questionnaire on Pre-retirement Education Training for Tertiary Institution Workers in Ekiti State (QPETTIW) was administered on the respondents. All the administered questionnaires were returned, mean and standard deviation were used to answer the four research questions. The finding revealed that there were economic, social and psychological needs for pre-retirement vocational education training for workers in public tertiary institutions in Ekiti State. Thus, it was recommended that institutional authorities should incorporate pre-retirement vocational training/education into their staff development programme, among others.
Torsion of the gallbladder leading to gangrene: A case report and literature review
Gallbladder torsion is a rare but potentially catastrophic presentation to an acute surgical unit. It was first described by Wendel in 1898 where this presentation was labelled as a ‘floating gallbladder’, with a high propensity for perforation1. Since then approximately 500 cases have been reported in the literature2. Anatomically, gallbladder torsion occurs where the gallbladder rotates along its mesentery causing vascular compromise and obstruction to biliary drainage. This leads to subsequent necrosis and perforation3. Shaikh A. et al have reiterated that the entire aetiological sequence of gallbladder torsion continues to remains a debated topic although, generally, a redundant mesentery is required for torsion to occur4. In most reported cases, the gallbladder has been shown to undergo a clockwise rotation 5. As described later, this presentation has predominantly been reported in elderly females suggesting that age plays a role in anatomically predisposing to torsion. Factors hypothesised for this include decrease in visceral fat and liver atrophy making free movement of the gallbladder and ultimately volvulus more likely to occur6. The symptoms of gallbladder torsion are in keeping with those of cholecystitis, typically presenting with right upper quadrant pain, nausea and vomiting 2. Clinical examinations of previously reported cases have documented abdominal distention, right upper quadrant pain and localised peritonitis2. These non-specific signs can make this specific phenomenon a challenge to diagnose in clinical practice. It has been documented that a partial volvulus can present with intermittent symptoms, similar to those seen in biliary colic, although the majority of cases will present acutely with signs described above 3. Due to the relatively low numbers reported in the literature it is difficult to determine the most appropriate investigations in patients where this is expected. Classically, patients presenting with right upper quadrant pain will likely receive an abdominal ultrasound on admission. From the cases…
CHALLENGES AND COPING STRATEGIES OF WOMEN WITH PHYSICAL DISABILITY
The main purpose of this study was to explore the lived experience of married women with physical disability. More specifically this study focused on main challenges faced by married women with physical disabilities, opportunities available to ensure the right of disabled women and strategies they used to solve their challenges. Qualitative research approach and case research design was used to present the study result. In-depth interview was the main data collection tool for this study. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the result of this study. The finding of this study indicated that married women experienced multiple challenges which include social-cultural challenges, psychological problems, economic problems, domestic challenges and gender based violence, violence based on their disability status, reproductive and health problems. Violence against women is most pressing challenges faced by women with physical disabilities. Thus findings revealed that women experienced multiple forms of violence, including emotional violence, neglect, financial abuse or exploitation, and physical or sexual abuse. This violence could include ignoring nutritional or medical needs, or inappropriate handling by caregivers. It could also take the form of being denied to access and control over financial resources. Women were also narrated that they face structural barriers in accessing education, health, and social services. Most safe places for women and girls remain inaccessible to those with disabilities. As a concluding remarks attention needs to be given for people with physical impairment and legal frameworks need to be implemented at grass root level to create disability friendly environment. It needs the collaborative effort of humanitarian agencies, the society, government and non-governmental organizations to make disability sensitization and resource mobilization to mainstream disability.
Assessment of Football Cooperation Performance Based on Evaluation Model: a Case Study of the Everton Team
To comprehensively measure the effect of football team cooperation, this paper established a football team performance evaluation model and takes the performance of Everton F.C. in 2017 to 2018 season as an example. We selected 12 indicators from three aspects and use hierarchical clustering to divide the performance into four levels: very successful, relatively successful, unsuccessful and very failed. Then, we evaluated the performance of the team’s changes and focus on the opponent’s strategy indicators to analyze its impact. It is found that the reason for most of the failed games is that the team is affected by the away effect, the intra-team cooperation is not dominant and the opponent’s ability is strong, resulting in low CPI scores. At the end of the season, the influence of the opponent strategy on team performance becomes stronger and stronger.
Gastric schwannoma: a case report and review of literature
Background: Schwannoma is a rare mesenchymal tumor, that arise from the Schwan cells of the nerve sheath. Schwannoma in the gastrointestinal tract is a very uncommon finding, with the stomach being the most common location. Preoperative diagnosis is difficult due to the wide variety of other mesenchymal tumors, definitive diagnosis is after histopathological examination and immunohistochemical staining of the specimen. Case presentation: We are presenting a rare case of stomach schwannoma, in a 50-year-old male who presented with urological complaints. He had a CT scan that incidentally showed a polypoidal gastric mass. Discussion: Schwannomas generally present asymptomatically; however, in some cases they can cause abdominal discomfort, pain or digestive symptoms. The definitive diagnosis of gastric schwannomas is determined by pathological examination of the surgically removed specimen. Conclusion: Schwannoma usually runs a benign course with excellent prognosis, yet there are very few reported cases of Malignant GI schwannoma. Benign or malignant, until now the treatment of choice is surgical excision with free margin.
“LANGUAGE”, “IMAGE” AND “MEANING” OF THE FILM DUBBING ART — A CASE STUDY OF THE SOUND
Recently, with the popularity of the TV program THE SOUND and the similar voice competition TV performance , dubbing actors and this industry are coming into the public notice gradually. Dating back to the pre-Qin dynasty, the theory of “Language”, “Image” and “Meaning” has appeared in the traditional Chinese art. For instance, “Language” cannot convey “Meaning” entirely; form “Image” to complete “Meaning”; gain “Meaning” and ignore “Image”. The relationship among them is the dialectical unity. Artists are required to integrate the three things organically in the artistic creation, creating excellent works of art. Film dubbing art is a kind of artistic creation, so this paper will take the TV program THE SOUND as an example to analyze how the dubbing actors use the three aspects of “Language”, “Image” and “Meaning” flexibly.
