Objective: To report, based on the literature, the action of the compound 5-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone against parasites (protozoa and helminths) that affect humans. Methods: This is a narrative review that used Pubmed and Google Scholar as a data tool. This work included articles published until September 2020 that were directly related to the use of the compound juglone in antiparasitic trials. Results: The compound juglone demonstrated promising effects as a human and animal antiparasitic substance. In protozoa, the Apicomplexo Toxoplasma gondii parasite showed a high mortality rate in concentrations of juglone in the nanomolar range. The juglone showed an average inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 1.62 µM, >100 µM, and 2.02 µM µM for Trypanosoma cruzi, T. brucei rhodesiense, and Leishmania donovani, respectively. Also, the juglone showed antihelmintic activity on Hymenolepis nana in mice, and on adult worms of Schistosoma mansoni (LE strain) with IC50 34.16 µM, 32.14 µM, and 25 µM in the 24h, 48h, and 72 h, respectively. Conclusion: The results published so far show the in vitro antiparasitic potential of juglone, and the need for further studies on the specific mode of action that interacts with parasites. Besides, the literature is still limited to studies that evaluate in vivo the compound juglone, requiring better information on its interaction with living organisms.

Alpha emitting nanoparticulates in internal contamination, an IARC Class 1 carcinogen, have an extremely wide list of effects. New effects are here demonstrated based on a wide epidemiological survey. WHO data in particular is used together with other large sets and juxtaposed to known sources of variations of radioactivity contamination in the environment to demonstrate the link which is always explained by the strong decay energy and its impact on the organism. Some behaviours are shown to be strategies of pain reduction, others of decontamination. This article confirms the simple logic of biophysics (the linear-no-threshold model) outlined by the author in previous publications.
“Organic food” – makes pharmaceutical industries work against insects – a danger for society in general
The author’s works have shown in various ways the absence of dangerosity of pesticides for human health, as all the studies claiming to find effects forget the side contamination with alpha-emitting nanoparticulates (from radon, phosphated fertilizers, car fumes, coal ashes for instance) that interacts with the samples and destroys the scientific validity of the results. This paper looks at the issue of organic food in a different way, because organic food also thrives on the sheer claim that it benefits to insects, and the author’s results here show that this is not the case too.

Evaluation of the Antioxidant Potential of Artisanal Liqueurs Produced From Fruits of the Caatinga Biome
Plant extraction is a common practice performed in community with the presence of native species with strong population interest. For many Brazilian regions, extractivism acts as a complement of income for the population. The present work aimed to evaluate artisanal liqueurs produced in local communities of the State of Pernambuco in order to observe the antioxidant potentials present during production stages. For this, trials were performed with dpph and abts radicals. All the liqueurs evaluated showed antioxidant potential, with expressive results through the sequestration of the DPPH radical, comprising values of 50 CI between 0.5 and 2.25.
Saccharum officcinarum (SOC) juice has been used for treatment and management of several conditions including urinary tract infection, diabetes, constipation, tooth decay and bad breath according to folklore. This study was carried out to explore the anti-inflammatory effects of the juice of Saccharum officinarum in doses of 2.5, 5.0, 10.0 and 20.0 mL/kg using the following models in rats – carrageenan, histamine, serotonin, formalin-induced paw oedema, and cotton-pellet granuloma. Analysis and Impact of Evidence Based Medicine in the Process of Education and Decision Making in Medical Practice
Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) is one of the modern systems of collecting, recording and using information and data related to medicine. The research was conducted in 2018 in several health institutions (health centers and hospitals) in Sarajevo Canton. The sample was made up of family doctors and other clinical specialties. The research results suggest the doctors in BiH are familiar with the concept of Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) and in their everyday work they apply relevant contemporary knowledge, national and international guidelines for the treatment and disease therapy. The most significant obstacle to more efficient management of medical information and the implementation of EBM in practice is the perception it would require additional time and incur significant cash expenditures to the doctors. In the future, doctors will increasingly be demanded to use advanced tools and modern techniques supporting them to make the most effective treatments on the basis of their own experience.
