Why Some Natural Areas Are Sacred? Lesson From Guji Oromo In Southern Ethiopia

Review Article of Global Journal of Arts and Humanities Why Some Natural Areas Are Sacred? Lesson From Guji Oromo In Southern Ethiopia Gemeda Odo Roba Current researches show that there are considerable sacred natural sites among Gujii Oromoo of southern Ethiopia. Nevertheless, the significant weight was not given to explore why some natural areas are sacred while others are profane. Hence, this article aims at addressing this question by exploring the traditional bases for classification of sacred and non-scared/profane land among Gujii Oromo in Adoola Reedde and Annaa Sorraa districts in Gujii Zone. Concerning methodological approach, methods of data gathering employed were in-depth and key informants’ interviews, transect walk and focus group discussions. The analysis of data was carried out through qualitative description and explanatory approach. The findings of the study demonstrate that dedication of some natural places to rituals of Gada system and adoring of waaqa in the area, are identified as the traditional grounds for sacredness of some natural sites. In addition, the symbolic connection of topographical features and agro-climatic condition with Guji cultural practices, on one hand and myths entrenched in the people’s tradition on the other are basic grounds for the classification of sacred areas from profane. Generally, some natural sites are sacred in the study area, not because of land’s unique feature or other aspects, but because of dedication to rituals in Gada system and worship of waaqa, symbolic implication of the area to Guji culture and related traditionally deep ingrained myths handed down from preceding generation. Selection of Angiogenic Markers that Predict the Transition from Bisphosphonate Exposure to MRONJ in a Rat Model

Research Article of International Journal of Dental Research and Reviews Selection of Angiogenic Markers that Predict the Transition from Bisphosphonate Exposure to MRONJ in a Rat Model Sonoko Nakasato1, Joshua Sanchez1, Katherine Chapman1, Michael Benichou1, Sadanand Fulzele2, Jeffrey A. Elo1, Shirley Y. Kang1, Carlos Guerra1, James L. Borke1 1College of Dental Medicine, Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona, California, UNITED STATES; 2Orthopedic Surgery, Augusta University, Augusta, Georgia, UNITED STATES Medication related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a disorder characterized by loss of blood supply to the jaws and death to the bone. In our previous work, we created a rat model of MRONJ by two injections of 60ug/Kg zoledronic acid (a powerful bisphosphonate abbreviated as ZA) via tail vein followed by extraction of a single first molar. We have shown in this model (ZA-treated rats plus molar extraction) a decrease in the vasculature of the jaws and a delay in bone healing beyond 4 weeks. Purpose: The current study identified angiogenic factors from the jaws of our MRONJ model where expression was altered independent of exposure to ZA alone. Methods: Using RT-PCR arrays containing 84 different gene sequences related to angiogenesis, we screened RNA isolated from the jaws of Control, ZA-treated rats, and our MRONJ rat model (ZA-treated plus first molar extraction), 3 and 6 weeks after extraction. Heat maps of gene expression were analyzed to identify genes where expression was either maximal or lost in MRONJ rats relative to ZA-treated rats without extraction. Results: Our study demonstrates the loss or gain of expression for 22 genes in the MRONJ rat model relative to rats treated with ZA alone. In MRONJ rats, the loss of expression was seen for 10 genes after 3 weeks and 3 additional genes (13 total) after 6 weeks where maximal expression was seen in rats ...

Eve and Evil. Hypnoanalysis of Demonic Possession. A Case-Study.

Case report of International Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine Eve & Evil. Hypnoanalysis of Demonic Possession. A Case-Study. József P. Vas MD H-+527. Soltész Nagy Kálmán u. 1. 1/5, Miskolc, Hungary. A woman, named Eve, has been possessed by Evil. She is continuously tortured by host of visions and cursed by demonic voices. She has a miscarriage and commits suicide several times. The therapist builds up a Jungian type of hypnotherapy and hypnoanalysis based upon Eve’s fairy tale experiences come from her childhood. The patient’s absolute good and evil self- and object representations develop in a mutual relationship each other in the form of miscellaneous symbols. Finally, a prolonged struggle of good and bad symbols arrives at a neutral point of rest. Since the therapist is not afraid of Eve’s experiences he wants to take part in them, which leads to a mutual experience of tandem hypnosis shared by both the patient and the therapist. Facing together with Evil the therapist becomes as a devil in a symbolic way while the devil is made gentle as an uncle of Eve’s life. Finally, the patient’s psychosis is healed. Department of Pharmacy, National Center for Cancer Care and Research, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha, Qatar. Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome-positive myeloproliferative neoplasm. The molecular consequence of reciprocal translocation t(9;22)(q34;q11) is the generation of the BCR–ABL fusion gene, which encodes a constitutively active tyrosine kinase signaling protein. The tyrosine kinase is responsible for the leukemia phenotype through the constitutive activation of multiple signaling pathways involved in the cell cycle and in adhesion and apoptosis. Dasatinib is an oral BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) which is mainly used for treating CML patients with resistance or intolerance to Imatinib. Dasatinib has several significant adverse reactions and gastrointestinal side effects including colitis. We report a case of a 33-year-old male, diagnosed with CML (Chronic Phase) who received Dasatinib as second-line therapy and developed chronic diarrhea and colitis attributed to Dasatinib and improved after stopping it. Keywords: Dasatinib, Chronic myeloid leukemia, Colitis #First and last authors equally contributed ...

Risk perception of cigarette and alcohol consumption: Korea and Cameroon public assessment views

Research Article of International Research Journal of Public Health Risk perception of cigarette and alcohol consumption: Korea and Cameroon public assessment views KyungHee Kim1,Tinyami Erick Tandi*1, 2,JaeWook Choi1, 3 1Institute for Occupational and Environmental Health, Korea University, Seoul, South Korea; 2Ministry of Public Health Yaounde, Yaoude Cameroon; 3Department of Preventive Medicine, College of Medicine, Graduate School of Public Health Korea University, Seoul South Korea. Introduction: There is a strong risk perception of personal knowledge on both cigarette-and alcohol-related harm. One possible factor contributing to this may be greater availability and access of cigarette and alcohol in the communities especially in developing settings. The causes of the difference in psychological factors that affect the public with high risk perception of cigarette and alcohol consumption was analysed. A higher perception of cigarette and alcohol availability is not only likely to increase supply but also to raise awareness of the different brands of alcohol, create a competitive local market that reduces product costs, and influence local social norms relating to cigarette and alcohol consumption. This paper assess risk perception with respect to the association between psychological paradigms of alcohol and cigarette use in both Korea and Cameroon nationwide. Methods: Using questionnaire survey a cross sectional study on risk perception regarding cigarette and alcohol consumption was assessed among some 2,181 men and 2,203 women from Korea and Cameroon who were over the age of 20 nationwide. Descriptive statistics were performed in order to analyse the sociodemographic characteristics of South Korea and Cameroon. Student’s t-test was performed to test the difference between risk perception and the psychometric paradigm. Correlational analysis was performed to analyse the relationship between risk perception and psychometric paradigm for each country. In order to analyse the components that affect risk perception, multivariate regression analysis was conducted. Results: The analysis results indicated ...
